TGIF! Happy Friday friends! I don’t know about you but I am so happy that the weekend is finally here because this week seemed to drag on forever.
Today’s post is all about a few places I checked out in the city a few weeks back. Before going to brunch with a bunch of my girlfriends, we made a few stops at some great spots in New York City.
First stop: Doughnut Plant in Chelsea
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a huge fan of sweets for breakfast. Give me a BEC any day and I’m a happy girl. But it was the weekend and my friend had heard great things about Doughnut Plant which was not too far from our next stop that morning.
The shop is known for a few things, one of which is the Crème Brulee donut. Oh. My. God. It was absolutely delicious. It’s more of a beignet in shape than a donut, but it’s filled with the most amazing crème brulee filling I’ve ever had. The next one that I got was a chocolate hazelnut donut, which was very similar to the crème brulee but with a Nutella-like filling (except much, much better). I also tried a bite of my friend’s blueberry donut, which was a traditional circle shape and covered in a light glaze. It tasted just like a blueberry muffin and the glaze was just sweet enough! I seriously cannot say enough about how delicious this place was and will definitely be going back sometime soon.
In addition to having incredible donuts, the décor is the cutest thing ever! Along the side wall are a ton of multi-colored donut pillows, and the bench underneath the wall that we sat at is made up of tiles that look like rainbow donuts! I thought it was the coolest way to decorate a donut shop.
Stop Two: The High Line
The High Line has been on my New York City bucket list for quite some time now, and I’m so happy that I finally got the opportunity to check it out! For those of you that are unfamiliar with it, it’s an old, above-street level railroad track that was converted into a public walkway and garden several years back. It stretches out for many blocks and offers great views of the city, awesome art installations, and a fun place to wander.
One of the coolest (and tbh, weirdest) parts of the High Line was an art installation there. As we walked through we ran into this sign. We kept walking and there was a statue of a naked man in his underwear! It was so lifelike it actually caught me a little off guard.
Stop Three: Chelsea Market
Another item on the bucket list! I finally made it out to Chelsea Market, which is extremely close to one of the exits of the High Line. It’s an indoor market filled with various shops and food vendors of all types. One of my favorite parts was a little shop with different craft vendors – they had so many beautiful pieces of handcrafted jewelry, vintage designer handbags and clothing, and artwork. Even better was the stand full of vintage records in amazing condition. I wish I had gone prepared to buy more – I’ll definitely be making another trip with my credit card ready to go :P
Last stop: Brunch at Revel
And then came the best part of the day – brunch! Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, so when you make it even better by adding all of your friends and mimosas to the mix, you really can’t beat it!
This place was especially cool because it’s made up to look like you’re sitting on a huge outdoor patio, complete with a backdrop of trees, but it’s actually inside in a greenhouse style building and heated, which means you can brunch to your heart’s content during the coldest weather and still feel like you’re outside in the summer!
If you're still in need of weekend plans, all of these places are definitely worth checking out! I know that I seriously enjoyed all of them and will be going back.
Enjoy your weekend loves!
xo, Jess
One question.... where's the "naked", underwear-clad sunbather!? ;o)
ReplyDeleteSeriously, this looks like a totally fun day. How on earth am I gonna talk you into moving back to CA with your parents if you keep finding spots like these? That crème brûlée donut... come ON. I'm eating a styrofoam-tasting Cup o' Noodles at 4am and you bring THAT to the forefront of my brain?
Not fair! WANT!
I didn't take a picture! I'll have to next time and show you.
DeleteHey I may not move back anytime soon but I'll certainly visit :)
Visiting works... and when you do, we'll have to work super hard on convincing you that you want to move back! (I know, I know.... fat/slim chance.) ;o)
DeleteHey, can you tell me what the font name is --if you know it-- of that title above (the one that says "Exploring Chelsea and The High Line")? It's tres cool!
(Moved my reply. It was *gasp!* in the wrong place!)
